Hoogerbrugge was found with a smashed skull. A mix of antipsychotics, antidepressants and a blood pressure medication was found in his blood, while he was not taking any medication himself. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the dishwasher contained six glasses with medicine residues and the fingerprints and DNA traces of the victim and E.

Arrested in London

Hala E. (47) was arrested last year in her current hometown of London. Before that, she lived in Hoogeveen, according to Dagblad van het Noorden. According to the newspaper, E. and Hoogerbrugge knew each other from the time when the woman had an Arabic supermarket. They sometimes smoked a joint together or stayed together, but there was no sexual relationship.

Hoogerbrugge’s father stated to the police that the victim was afraid of E. He had already had the idea that he had been poisoned a few weeks earlier. Then he had slept for almost a day, for no good reason.

Information sought

Hoogerbrugge then started looking for information about the woman, writes Dagblad van het Noorden. The prosecutor said during the hearing that he searched for information about her on the internet and also called the company where she said she worked, but she did not work there. “He may have been onto something against Hala E.”

The Public Prosecution Service has not yet completed the investigation, but today it presented reasons for the suspicion against her. For example, a friend of E. missed medication for three days after a visit from the woman. These were found in Hoogerbrugge’s body.

Reported missing

E. was also reported missing by her son a week after the murder, because she was unreachable. A day later, she was accidentally found at a friend’s house in Meppel by the police, who wanted to question the man about E. The friend stated that she had stayed there for days, ‘as if she wanted to go into hiding’.

E.’s lawyer asked for her release, but according to the court there are enough reasons to detain her. It is not known what the motive for the murder is. E. did not want to make a statement.
