Leuchter: ‘I showed myself well’
Romée Leuchter is happy that she was able to show herself at the highest level through the successful Champions League campaign. “I have shown that I can take a step higher,” Leuchter said NOS. “Everyone wants to show themselves on the highest stage. I did that well, then we’ll see what happens.” The Dutch international previously indicated that he wanted to leave Ajax after this season.

Grant: ‘Going home with my head held high’
Chasity Grant, the only goal scorer on the Amsterdam side, responded proudly to the 1-1 draw. “We are going home with our heads held high,” she said to the NOS. “We showed quite a good game and learned from last week. That was a goal to show.” Grant scored the equalizer and goes to the Dutch team with a good feeling. “I am very happy that I was called up. The fact that I am now scoring is only great.”

Wednesday March 27 at 10:52 PM

Last! Ajax leaves the Champions League with its head held high. In London, Suzanne Bakker’s team kept the English league leaders to a draw, but it was not nearly enough to wipe out the 0-3 defeat at home.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:51 PM

90+3′ Van Eijk also puts himself in the spotlight. The Ajax keeper makes himself proud when a Chelsea player comes dangerously close and prevents the Amsterdam team from conceding.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:46 PM

88′ Good grief, what a shot from Tolhoek from outside the penalty area. From the turn she curls the ball wonderfully towards the intersection, but again it is Musovic with a nice save.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:38 PM

80′ Wow, mega opportunity for Leuchter. The Ajax player wonderfully takes down her opponent Carter and fires a shot towards the intersection from close range. Chelsea keeper Musovic is not sleeping and prevents a second goal from Ajax with a nice save.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:33 PM

76′ A quick cheer and move on. Ajax is still trying to get more out of it than a draw.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:22 PM

65′ GOAL Ajax! 1-1

Suddenly there is the goal from Chasity Grant, who was called up to the Dutch national team yesterday by national coach Andries Jonker. The attacker receives a measured through pass from Hoekstra and simply shoots in on the edge of the penalty area.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:19 PM

61 ‘The crowd is sagging a bit, because it has not yet seen any big opportunities in the second half. Chelsea waits, while Ajax looks for the opening. For now it remains a matter of searching.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:08 PM

51′ Chance for Ajax after good pressure from Leuchter. The striker gets the ball back through a teammate, but gets no further than a boring shot straight at the Chelsea goalie.

Wednesday March 27 at 10:03 PM

46′ Kick-off second half! The ball is rolling again in London. Elimination seems inevitable for Ajax, but the team will want to end this Champions League campaign with a good feeling and will therefore look for a goal.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:59 PM

Isa Kardinaal is put in the spotlight by Ajax. The only eighteen-year-old defender has already played fifty games for Ajax.

Ajax will not be outplayed at Stamford Bridge. The statistics:
  • Chelsea-Ajax
  • Ball possession: 47-53 percent
  • Goal attempts: 5-3
  • Shots on target: 1-0

Wednesday March 27 at 9:47 PM

Peace! Ajax is playing much better than last week in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, but still goes into halftime with a deficit. Suzanne Bakker’s job is to boost her team’s spirits at halftime.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:46 PM

45′ There! Just before half time, Leuchter once again hands over her calling card. The Dutch international takes the ball wonderfully on her instep from an impossible angle, but her shot flies just over.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:43 PM

43′ That should have been 2-0 for Chelsea. After a beautiful cross from the right, Ramírez grazes the ball from close range. There could have been more in it for the London club.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:38 PM

The image banks are lightning fast! Chelsea celebrates Ramírez’s 1-0 here, or actually the 4-0.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:34 PM

33′ GOAL Chelsea! 1-0

There is the goal for Chelsea. The Londoners smash through Ajax’s defense, with Ramírez as the finishing point. The Colombian Champions League debutant shoots in from close range. Ajax now has to score four times to force extra time….

Wednesday March 27 at 9:31 PM

30′ Ajax plays a much stronger first half hour than last week. The Spitse effect?

Wednesday March 27 at 9:28 PM

a2d0774d7c.jpg

Frustration at Guro Reiten after her missed opportunity. Chelsea is getting closer, but Ajax is holding out well for the time being.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:24 PM

23′ Ajax gets away well there. Reiten is outlawed and fires a rock-hard shot, but she follows Leuchter’s example: wide.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:19 PM

18′ What do we see now! The Chelsea keeper comes out of her goal and shoots the ball hard against Hoekstra from outside the sixteen, after which the ball almost goes into the English goal. The ball rolls outside the lines just next to the right post.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:18 PM

17′ Leuchter dangerous! The Ajax striker, who wants to leave the Amsterdam club after this season, turns well and delivers a hard shot at the Chelsea goal from inside the penalty area. It doesn’t make much difference, but the ball flies past.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:17 PM

The first competition images are trickling in! We are waiting for the beautiful plates.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:11 PM

11′ Phew, Hoekstra is face to face with Musovic, but the Swedish keeper gets to the ball a little earlier. Ajax is certainly not without a chance.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:09 PM

9 ‘Chelsea suddenly appears dangerous. Erin Cuthbert pushes a low cross just wide.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:05 PM

3′ Well, Ajax is quite dangerous in the opening minutes of this match. The team from Amsterdam have possession of the ball and have already come dangerously close to the Chelsea goal a few times.

Wednesday March 27 at 9:01 PM

1′ Kick-off! We are on the way. Can Ajax overcome the 0-3 deficit or is it in the last Champions League match?

Wednesday March 27 at 9:00 PM

Spitse is back and addresses her team as usual. Kick-off is almost here!

Wednesday March 27 at 8:59 PM

Ajax today has to fear from Mayra Ramírez, who came to Chelsea for a record amount of 500,000 euros. The Colombian attacker will make her Champions League debut tonight.

Wednesday March 27 at 8:57 PM

The players enter the field! Just a little while and we’ll go wild!

Wednesday March 27 at 8:55 PM

There are also a few loyal Ajax fans in London.

Chelsea line-up: Musović; Perisset, Carter, Buchanan, Lawrence; Cuthbert, Ingle, Kirby; Beever-Jones, Ramirez, Reiten

The winner of this quarter-final will meet FC Barcelona of Esmee Brugts (photo) or Norwegian Brann in the semi-finals. The previous match ended in a 2-1 win for the Catalan team. The two clubs will face each other tomorrow from 6.45 pm.

Time for the field inspection. Could they have forgotten that at Oranje yesterday?

Wednesday March 27 at 8:12 PM

Yet Ajax again has to contend with a major absentee tonight. Sixteen-year-old super talent Lily Yohannes was fined last week and will therefore have to watch from the stands tonight. It’s a shame for her, but she will still play plenty of Champions League games in her career.

Wednesday March 27 at 8:10 PM

The shirts are ready, this time also Sherida Spitse’s. The 33-year-old captain of Ajax missed the previous match due to a suspension. “It’s very nice that she is back,” said trainer Suzanne Bakker a day before the match. “She has experience in her backpack, so she can help other players. The younger players then have to deal with fewer things at the same time. That experience and coaching are very nice.”

Let’s go back to last week. Ajax then lost 0-3 to Chelsea in the first match for a place in the semi-finals. A bright spot: no fewer than 35,997 tickets had been sold for the match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Never before have there been so many spectators at a match between women’s teams in the Netherlands.

Countdown started! The Ajax players have just arrived at Stamford Bridge. Nadine Noordam is looking forward to it despite last week’s 0-3 defeat.
