An 80-year-old woman died this morning following a stabbing in James Cookstraat in De Baarsjes. A 21-year-old family member has been arrested. Local residents that AT5 spoke to today reacted with shock to the incident: “It’s terrible that something like this could happen here.”
The police received a report around 6:30 am. Upon arrival at the home, the police found a 21-year-old woman in the porch, after which officers found the victim upstairs with the stab wounds. The efforts of ambulance personnel and the police were no longer of any avail. The victim died on the way to the hospital.
A neighbor can hardly believe the drama that took place a few houses away from his home this morning. “I didn’t hear anything at all this morning, unfortunately. I knew her, she was a very old, nice woman. She would never cause a nuisance or anything,” he says.
Another local resident also said he was shocked: “I just heard what happened. I’m also shocked that such things can happen in the neighborhood. It’s terrible.”
The 21-year-old woman has been arrested. Local residents who have good contact with the family informed AT5 that it is the victim’s granddaughter. What happened is still being investigated: “Nothing is yet known about the motive, that will have to emerge from the interrogation,” says a police spokesperson.
