Audio emoji in the Netherlands: this is how it works

Google is the founder of Android, the operating system used on hundreds of millions of devices worldwide. We are working hard on updates for Android every day, but there are also teams working on other things. From now on it is possible for Pixel users in the Netherlands to use audio emoji during a phone call.

Currently you have the choice to send six types of emoji during a conversation. If you are the caller, you will see an animation and hear the corresponding sound. As a receiver you see nothing, but only hear the sound. On the editorial staff of Android Planet we of course tested this. Even if the recipient uses a Pixel smartphone, he or she will not see anything at all – only the sound will be sent.

Want to send an audio emoji? Then follow these steps:

  1. Call someone as you normally would;
  2. Once the connection has been established, tap the ‘Audio emoji’ button;
  3. Tap one of the six audio emoji icons and you’re done.

You can also tap the three dots from the normal call menu for more settings and then choose ‘audio emoji’. These include sounds of applause, drum rolls, someone laughing, crying, party sounds and finally a fart sound. You can also disable the function in the settings.

Why these six sounds were chosen, whether we can expect more in the future and whether it will be possible, for example, to send your own sounds as audio emoji: this is all still unknown.

Do you have a Pixel and do you also see the function and what do you think about it? Fun to use or pure nonsense and a gimmick? Let us know in the comments!
