This is when you can expect the foldable iPad and iPhone (maybe)

--

In terms of hardware, the smartphone market is boring. You would think that the arrival of foldable smartphones could have caused some movement, but that is disappointing. Maybe if Apple gets involved in this category, we can get a little more excitement and excitement.

The foldable (or pliable, in our southern neighbors) smartphones have not yet achieved the market share that was hoped for. Samsung is the absolute market leader with its Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Flip, but Motorola also scores nice reviews with its remake of the classic Razr. But the market share of the foldable phone is less than 1.5 percent.

One of the reasons for the slow growth is of course the price: foldable smartphones are (more) expensive, although the Chinese Nubia will release a relatively cheap flip device. The specifications are also not always up to par with the flat versions and consumers do not yet see the benefits of foldable phones.

Appleflip or Appleflap?

This could all change when Apple gets involved in this market. There are people who predict that we can expect the first foldable products from Cupertino in the coming years.

These people are analysts who, among other things, keep an eye on Apple’s supply chain: suppliers of certain parts and machines often give away something of what Apple is planning. By analyzing these, certain assumptions can be made. One of those assumptions is that there will be a 20.3-inch foldable device. Production of a foldable hybrid between a Macbook and an iPad is expected to start in 2025.

This product would be followed in 2026 or 2027 by a foldable iPhone. One would be looking at a screen size of 7.9 or 8.3 inches.

Feasible?

The analysts’ analysts are quite skeptical about these reports. They find the timelines rather short and don’t think Apple is in such a hurry yet.
