Spotify appears to be testing its upcoming subscription for listening to high-fidelity audio in its app for desktops and laptops. A Reddit user shared screenshots showing that lossless audio supports a maximum bitrate of 2,117 kb per second.

A Reddit user shares some screenshots of Spotify’s high-fidelity audio feature. The images show that “lossless” has been added to the stream quality options. The user reports that it is not yet possible to actually play lossless audio.

Spotify currently offers a maximum bitrate of 320 kb per second. From the screenshots it can be seen that the high-fidelity audio function supports a bitrate of up to 2,117 kb per second. This would increase data consumption from 2 MB to 15.9 MB per minute. Users also appear to be able to test whether their device and internet bandwidth support lossless audio.

Spotify has been promising since 2021 that a hi-fi subscription is on the way, but so far this subscription form is not available yet. Other music streaming services already offer subscriptions with better sound quality. According to the latest rumors, the Spotify subscription with hi-fi audio will be called “Music Pro”.

Lossless audio makes it possible to listen to music in high quality. The original sound is produced without losing the quality of the song. Spotify recommends using the feature with Spotify Connect speakers or a wired connection; Bluetooth does not fully support lossless audio.
