Microsoft indicates that the March security updates for Windows 11, 10 and various Windows Server versions break VPN connections. The company is busy solving these problems.

According to Microsoft, the recent April 2024 security and April 2024 non-security preview updates cause issues with VPN connections. This may prevent setting up VPN connections.

Various Windows versions affected

Both Windows 11 v22H2/23H2 and Windows 10 v22H2/2021H2 client versions are affected. Various variants of Windows Server also cause problems. In the latter case, these update issues apply to Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, 2012 R2, 2012, 2008 R2 and 2008.

Uninstall updates

Microsoft does not currently have a solution for the problem. It is working hard on that. As a workaround, the company suggests uninstalling the update if VPN connections are indispensable for the user or organization.

Users should be aware that this uninstallation process also removes all other recent security updates, potentially exposing them to additional security risks.
