This is how World of Warcraft Remix mode works

--

It promises to be a special anniversary year for World of Warcraft: the MMORPG will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in November. In the run-up to the new expansion War Within, which should be released later this year, publisher Blizzard is also introducing a new mode: World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria. We return to the land of the Pandaren in a special way.

The release of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria in 2012 caused a division in the MMO community. For a large group, the expansion felt like another step in the wrong direction for the MMO after the previous expansion Cataclysm, which literally turned their familiar world upside down. For those who continued to play the game, Mists of Pandaria is a magical journey through a continent that feels completely different from the rest of Azeroth. Due to this split, it is questionable whether there will be a Classic version of this expansion, although with the announcement of Classic Cataclysm it no longer seems impossible. Before we get an answer to that, Blizzard is already recycling Pandaria this year, in a rather unexpected way in WoW Remix.

These are the Timerunners

Just like with Plunderstorm, WoW Remix is a separate mode. You must create a new character, a so-called Timerunner. Unlike the battle royale mode Plunderstorm, you can ultimately take your character to the live version of World of Warcraft and play The War Within with it later this year. However, during WoW Remix you are bound to Pandaria and you can only level there and do dungeons and raids.

The Timerunner can be any class and race and then starts at level 10. You can play almost all content from Mists of Pandaria and go through the story of this expansion. As you play, you level up to level 70. You can play the raids from Mists of Pandaria on the Heroic difficulty at maximum level, but your character will remain tied to Pandaria for as long as WoW Remix lasts. This makes it very similar to the seasons from the Diablo games, where you create a new character at the start of a season that you take with you to the main game at the end of the season.

Furthermore, there are a few limitations to this mode. For example, you cannot give your character professions and make your own gear or potions. You also cannot earn money through the Auction House, because it is disabled during WoW Remix. Now that is not really necessary, because Blizzard throws out loot as soon as you set foot on Pandaria.

You must create a new character, a so-called Timerunner.

Infinite loot

Collecting weapons and equipment is already an important element in World of Warcraft, but it gets even more emphasis in WoW Remix. Enemies in Pandaria are supposed to drop loot in the new mode. This means players are constantly receiving new upgrades. The flow of items you wear during Remix is a lot higher than in the live version of the game.

In addition, you immediately receive a special Cloak of Infinite Potential. You can upgrade these while leveling with special items that you receive while playing. On top of that, special gems allow you to upgrade your items and give you exactly the bonuses you need for your playing style. This can make a Remix character much more powerful than normal, until you are completely overpowered.

According to Blizzard, a Remix character should quickly feel like you’re cheating a bit. That’s not a problem, because Remix is a standalone mode. For example, you cannot play the current raids from Dragon Flight with this character. It is expected that the dungeons and raids in Pandaria will become a bit easier.

Ultimately, you are not allowed to take all that loot with you to The War Within, because then it will be a short expansion. You can, however, convert the loot that you find and no longer need bronze. Players can use this new currency to purchase transmog items, which they can use to dress up all their characters in World of Warcraft. In addition, there are also the necessary mounts and cute pets to earn.

It is not yet clear how long players will have to make their character as strong as possible in WoW Remix, but it is expected that this will be sometime until shortly before the release of The War Within. In any case, anyone with an active World of Warcraft subscription can play WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria from May 16.
