HMD Global launches its own smartphones: HMD Pulse series

--

You probably know HMD Global, or Human Mobile Devices, from the Nokia phones. The brand previously announced that they would now also release phones under their own flag. And that moment has now arrived, because the HMD Pulse series has been announced and consists of no fewer than three different smartphones. And very nice, in the context of sustainability and repairability, it should also be very easy for the consumer to repair these smartphones. This way you can easily replace the screen, charging port or battery yourself. Self-repair kits in collaboration with iFixit are available.

This is the HMD Pulse series

The series consists of the HMD Pulse Pro, the HMD Pulse+ and the HMD Pulse. Do you expect the Pro model to be expensive? Don’t worry, because all three phones are available for less than 200 euros. They are also very similar in terms of hardware. First of all, the similarities. The smartphones have a 6.65-inch screen with a resolution of 1,612 by 720 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. On board we find a Unisoc T606 chipset with 6 GB of RAM (Pulse Pro) and 4 GB of RAM for the Pulse+ and Pulse. The storage memory is 128 GB for the devices. The battery is also identical at 5,000 mAh, but the Pulse Pro will charge faster at 20W than the 10W of the other devices.

We see big differences with the cameras. The Pulse Pro has a 50-megapixel main camera and a two-megapixel depth sensor. The selfie camera also has 50 megapixels. The Pulse+ has to make do with a 50-megapixel main camera and a two-megapixel depth sensor. However, the selfie camera has eight megapixels. Finally, the regular Pulse seems to be the least equipped with a thirteen-megapixel main camera, two-megapixel depth sensor and eight-megapixel front camera. The smartphones will receive two major Android updates and three years of security updates. They run on Android 14 out of the box.

Price and availability

The HMD Pulse+ (Apricot Crush and Midnight Blue) and the HMD Pulse (Dreamy Pink and Meteor Black) are immediately available for 159.99 euros and 139.99 euros respectively. The Pro version will soon be released for 179.99 euros in the colors Glacier Green, Twilight Purple and Black Ocean.
