Wout van Aert was just received as a hero in “his” Herentals. When the brand new green jersey of the Tour de France signed for the post-Tour criterion, the green mass exploded.
The city council had called on the population to come to the game in green. That message did not miss its target. It was apparently visible from a satellite that Herentals turned completely green today. Even the coffee cakes got a lick of paint.
“It is very special to see that everyone here is in theme”, beamed home driver Van Aert. “This feels like coming home. It’s great that I can celebrate my achievements in the Tour with my fans.”
Despite his cold, Van Aert still went to Herentals to finish one last game before taking a rest break. He previously announced that he will not participate in the Clasica San Sebastian.
The revelation of the Tour could therefore use all the support. And got it. “Woutje van Aert, Woutje van Aert, he will do it again, because he is in the green”, his fans encouraged him poetically.
It inspired the green man to go on the attack with Daan Soete, one of his best friends.
You must have it from your friends. Van Aert then let Herentals explode completely when he trumped Mathieu van der Poel and his other buddy Tim Merlier in the final sprint.
