Things have really not been going well for Visma-Lease a Bike in recent weeks. There were heavy falls for Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert, as a result of which the latter also had to forfeit the Giro. Now there is bad news again.

For example, Christophe Laporte was brought on board as a replacement for Van Aert, but the Frenchman now has to quit after seven stages. He has not recovered sufficiently from his crash in stage 5. Laporte also had his share of bad luck with illness in the spring.

This seems to have little influence on Cian Uijtdebroeks, but co-leader – albeit for the sprint – Olav Kooij has lost his lead-out. Earlier, Visma-Lease a Bike also saw Robert Gesink drop out in this Giro. This leaves the Dutch formation with six riders.
