Noa Lang was one of PSV’s top signings this season and started the season great. The wing attacker has not played at all for the Eindhoven team since the end of January. A hamstring injury that had been bothering him since the summer, according to the official report, but that now appears not to be the only ailment he was struggling with.

A few days after PSV secured the 25th national title in club history, Lang reported on Instagram that he was struggling with glandular fever. “I’m not the type of person who lets the outside world know what’s going on mentally and I like to keep things private, but I think I have to do that now to make things clear,” he begins. “Mentally it was not an easy year. Every match it was confrontational to see my team play and not be able to participate due to a hamstring problem that I have been suffering from since August, but only discovered in January due to three wrong diagnoses. The problem seemed much worse than what was first reported. And that explained why every time I started making minutes again, my hamstring started to bother me again. Mistakes were made but I don’t blame anyone. I also had mononucleosis, which did not make the whole rehabilitation process any easier. But I always kept smiling.”

“I would like to thank everyone within PSV for all the support and appreciation I have received from day one,” Lang continues. “PSV is a warm family club, and I am grateful to be part of it. Even though it didn’t feel that way for me personally in recent months. I am proud of the team, and I am already focusing on next season in which we will win all the trophies together.”

Lang – for whom PSV paid Club Brugge 12.5 million euros – played in nineteen official matches this season despite all the problems. He scored five goals and two assists.
