Which Belgian clubs will play in Europe next season? The crucial week that awaits us – with Club in the Conference League, the cup final and the play-offs – will bring a lot of clarity. Because how can the distribution still change? An answer to three pressing questions.

How are the tickets distributed?

Due to last year’s excellent performance, our country will be able to send 5 teams to Europe next season. Club Brugge, Union and Anderlecht are currently certain of a European ticket yet to be determined.

In theory – there is an exception associated with the cup final, more about that later – the distribution is as described below.

  • Champion: Champions League pools
  • Second: Champions League 3rd qualifying round
  • Cup winner: Europa League play-offs
  • Third: Europa League 2nd qualifying round
  • Fourth or KAA Ghent: Conference League 2nd qualifying round

What is the impact of the cup final?

Not only fans of Antwerp and Union will watch the cup final with special interest on Thursday. The outcome could also have a major impact on the distribution of European tickets.

For Antwerp Without miracles, it is normally the only chance to be active internationally again next season. A cup win equals a ticket for the Europa League play-offs.

In a triumph of Union others may also benefit. It works like this: if the people of Brussels become champions or finish second and win the cup, all tickets will move up in a row.

Number 3 would then head to the Europa League play-offs, number 4 would then immediately play the second qualifying round and number 5 would go to the jump-off match against KAA Gent.

Antwerp and Union will play for the Belgian Cup on Thursday. Follow the match live via Sporza.

Will Belgium get an extra European ticket if Club Brugge wins the Conference League?

Frequently asked question in recent weeks: what if Club Brugge were to win the Conference League?

In addition to eternal fame and a nice sum of prize money, this final victory also comes with direct access to the group stage of the Europa League.

Only: Club has a good chance of grabbing a more interesting ticket through its own competition – by finishing first or second. What would happen to that Europa League fast pass?

Well, that ticket goes to a team from the Europa League qualifiers with the best five-year coefficient. There is little chance that it will be a Belgian team.

Even if Club wins the Conference League, there will not be 6 Belgian teams active in Europe next season.
