Despite an important victory, Club Brugge also suffers a major setback in the title race and with an eye on Fiorentina – Football news

--

Club Brugge has once again taken a strong step towards the title against Royal Antwerp FC. It can now watch from the sofa what Union and Anderlecht do against each other. Yet there was also bad news.

Club Brugge won a fiercely fought match against Royal Antwerp FC, but it may have suffered a serious setback in that match. Bjorn Meijer injured himself during the encounter with The Great Old.

The full-back had to be taken off five minutes before half-time after he started feeling his knee without another player around. It was immediately clear that he could not finish the match.

Meijer immediately received treatment in the first half between Club Brugge and Antwerp, but the wing defender had to be replaced before coffee. Kyriani Sabbe replaced the Dutchman before the break.

Fiorentina on the slope for Meijer

The severity of the injury is not yet clear, but the match against Fiorentina seems to come too early for Bjorn Meijer anyway. With some setbacks, Meijer’s season may be over immediately, because the season will end within three weeks.

Club Brugge will play against Fiorentina at home on Wednesday. That seems to come too early for Meijer. Without Meijer, it will again be an extra challenge for Nicky Hayen to get his team ready to compete against the Italians.
