After 6 seasons, Julie Allemand is closing the door behind her at the French top club ASVEL Lyon. The player of the Belgian Cats has chosen to look for other places. There is a exodus at Lyon after a changeable season.

Julie Allemand settled in the summer of 2017 at Lyon, the club where former NBA star Tony Parker rules. In the south of France he developed – including a trip to Montpellier – into one of the best point guards in Europe.

With Lyon, Allemand won 2 French titles (in 2019 and 2023) and the EroCup (2023). All those years she was one of the undisputed strong points of the team. Chairman and owner Tony Parker never concealed his admiration for our compatriot.

But this season things went significantly less well at Lyon, which on paper was packed with talent, but where the mayonnaise never seemed to catch on. With an injured Allemand, the team was recently eliminated without a chance in the 1st round of the French play-offs.

Thank you for 6 wonderful years. Lyon has become my second home and I will always be grateful for that.

Now that Lyon’s season is over, it is clear that the club will have to take a different tack next season. With the French internationals Gabby Williams, Marine Johannès, Helena Ciak and Marine Fauthoux, 4 strong players have already decided to leave.

Julie Allemand has activated a termination clause in her contract, following the example of Williams and co. “Thank you for 6 wonderful years. Lyon has become my second home and I will always be grateful for that,” she writes on Instagram.

Allemand is currently focusing on her recovery after ankle surgery. The playmaker faces a race against time to get fit for the Olympic Games. It is not yet known which European club Allemand will work for next season.
