Anderlecht hopes to bring the title race to a successful conclusion in the coming weeks, but in the meantime Jesper Fredberg is of course not sitting idle. Numerous potential targets are already circulating in the corridors. Another name can now be added to that list.
Not a total stranger, because Himad Abdelli was previously on the radar in the Lotto Park. The 23-year-old Algerian was in the picture at the start of the previous summer trade fair. Ultimately, however, he turned out to be too expensive, and the Purple & White opted for Alexis Flips.
Belgian privateers on the coast
Not a direct hit, although Flips may get another chance after his loan in Turkey next season. Still, it looks like the people of Brussels could use a playmaker again. Even more so now that Thorgan Hazard is still in hospital until next year.
According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, Abdelli’s file is again on the table. However, Anderlecht does not appear to be the only candidate, as two other teams from the Jupiler Pro League are also said to be lurking. It is currently unknown who it concerns.
Issue for Fredberg
Nor does the price tag that his current employer Angers has put on number 10 this time. Abdelli has scored nine goals and two assists in 34 appearances for the French second division club so far this season, where he will remain on contract until mid-2026.
The market value of the three-time international is estimated at 3.5 million, exactly the sum that Fredberg put on the table for Flips last summer. With more resources available, he may make an extra effort to snare Abdelli later.
