After a long study round, Dansoko (ex-Deinze player) caused the first danger. The left wing first put two East Flemish players into the wind and then took a swing from a distance, but the ball flew just over the intersection. Around the half hour mark, Deinze, which had forced the most ball possession until then, was also able to threaten for the first time. First Schuermans headed over from a corner kick and then Kehrer, although unhindered, headed wide from Janssens’ cross from close range. Shortly before half time, Heekeren cleverly dived a free kick from Hendrickx from the corner. With the subsequent corner kick, the ball stayed in Patro’s danger zone for a while until it finally fell at the feet of Gonzalo, who aimed beautifully into the intersection from 30 meters: 0-1. After Lemoine made a mistake on Dansoko, Peeters fired the free kick over. In the extra minute, Dansoko headed home the equalizer before half time, but goalkeeper Blanco Miras just tipped the ball over the crossbar.

Instead of 1-1, it immediately became 0-2 in the second half when Heekeren fired a shot from Van Landschoot and Kehrer tapped in the rebound. In the meantime, Patro had also lost Corstjens, who remained in the dressing room, and now also had to replace Pietermaat due to an injury. On the hour mark Mertens went down in slight contact with Dijkhuizen. Despite protests, Ref Smet immediately pointed to the spot from where Mertens himself put the 0-3 on the board. Trainer Stijnen used all his offensive assets with Bentayeb, Sam Bruce and Noubissi, but it was no longer possible to soften the score. Worse still, Kehrer increased to 0-4 and Souleymane even missed the forfeit figures.
