Burgess: “This is history”

“This is a big relief,” said an enthusiastic Christian Burgess. “We are making history today. A lot of weight is now off our shoulders. I’m very into the boys. Everyone deserves this trophy. The club, the fans, the owners. A lot of credits to the chairman, I am very happy for him.”

“There is a lot of emotion involved, because this is history. So I am very satisfied. We can now celebrate and then focus on the competition.”

Castro-Montes: “We have given up”

Alessio Castro-Montes also spoke of relief. “Especially after the second half, where we didn’t start well. We had to fight for every ball all the time, trying to keep it out of the box. Our centre-backs have done a great job. We have given up, but it is the end result that counts.”

“Finally this club can win a trophy,” Castro-Montes continued. “We had to fight for it for a long time. Based on this season we certainly deserve an award. Too bad about the start of the Play-offs, but this prize has already been won. It’s a big relief.”

“Today I was able to be part of a team that was able to achieve something historic. That was an extra reason to do well today. It has been 89 years since Union last won a prize. That makes this very historic. I am happy to be part of this group.”

Vincent Janssen: “This is difficult”

“I stand here with a different feeling than last year,” said Antwerp striker Vincent Janssen. “After a great season, this is a year with ups and downs. We were still able to end the season well today, but unfortunately. We’ll have to deal with this. It is difficult. This is not the year the club wanted.”

“Our plan was clear. We used a different tactic than the previous matches. We didn’t give away much more than them, but in the end a corner decided the match. And once you fall behind against Union, you know it will be difficult to get through. Union is the deserved winner.”

“Whether this is a farewell in a minor key? I do not know. It is also not an issue now. I am happy here. We’ll see what happens,” concluded the Dutchman.
