There will also be first division football at Mambourg next season. The Zebras already had their sheep on dry land before half time, but were still trembling against Eupen in the final phase. Rik De Mil thus keeps two teams in the first division in the same season. Eupen, on the other hand, seems to disappear from the Jupiler Pro League after 8 years.

Eupen – Charleroi in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: A few minutes before half-time, a ball suddenly falls at Dabbagh’s feet. The striker blows past Slonina in the turn. Charleroi plays football with a double lead, a whole second from a seat, Eupen can only make it exciting at the end of the match.
  • Man of the match: In Charleroi’s better first half, every attack went past Parfait Guiagon. The Ivorian was unable to get rid of the ball and also provided the assist for the 0-1.
  • Remarkable: After Westerlo, Rik De Mil donates the retention to a second club in the same season. That must be unique.
  • Striking (bis): With 2 matchdays to go, the curtain could already fall on these Relegation Play-offs on Sunday. If RWDM wins against Kortrijk, the last days of play will be for nothing.

Sharp Charleroi takes control of the match

For the second week in a row, Eupen and Charleroi looked each other in the eye in the battle for retention.

The visitors knew that with a victory they were assured of an extended stay in the top divisions and moved forward under the impulse of a strong Guiagon.

After about 10 minutes, Guiagon, after a good effort by Dragsnes, got the ball to Bernier. The winger pulled the trigger from the edge of the sixteen: 0-1 for Charleroi.

Without developing many chances, Charleroi remained the best team, Eupen was only able to break out a few times and showed insufficient quality on the ball during those breakouts.

Just before half time, the Carolo’s dominance was also turned into a double lead.

Dari was allowed to dribble very far and then took his chance from distance, with a good portion of luck the ball fell at the feet of an alert Dabbagh. The striker finished well in the turn.

Koffi still creates some tension

The second half we saw a different Eupen. The home team realized that it needed points and therefore attacked.

However, this did not result in much more than a volley from Magnée’s offside.

Charleroi controlled the match without being dangerous, until Koffi opted for some tension.

The goalkeeper immediately kicked a ball into the feet of Palsson, who quickly passed it to striker Bialek. The latter produced an excellent finish, Eupen still had a few minutes to look for an equalizer.

In the end it didn’t happen anymore, Charleroi played the match maturely. The Carolos thus ensure their survival after a difficult season. Eupen, on the other hand, is in serious trouble and relegation could be a fact for them on Sunday.

Reactions after Eupen – Charleroi:

  • Rik De Mil: “It has never been done here, I already said that during half-time. In the first half we played good football at certain times, in the second half we played against a team that played all or nothing and was much stronger in the matches than That should be a lesson for us, although I did see a team that fought until the last second. That also makes me happy, you can see that the team spirit has increased a lot in recent weeks. I would have liked even better football in the second half, but we deserved to win. You see several boys growing to a better level, which makes me happy. I wasn’t here for the Play-offs, so I can’t really say what has changed I just worked on building a close-knit team and started putting more pressure on. We wanted to play more football, and we were able to do that step by step running in a few weeks, that makes me happy.”
  • Antoine Bernier: “It was stressful at the end, they could have equalized. Throughout the game I think we controlled it well, the 3 points are the most important. We pushed from the beginning, the early goal did us good. The second goal was even more important. I think the fact that I can play 4 games in a row gives me extra confidence. Tactically and in terms of enthusiasm, we have shown that we were ready in these play-offs.”
  • Kristoffer Andersen: “It’s hard to say things now because of the emotions. We slept for the first 10 minutes, then we got into the game. The second goal that came out of nowhere killed us. I think we tried everything throughout the season with the team, in the end that has not yet led to solutions. I think we have the quality in the team, we have simply not been consistent enough, I have seen good performances and catastrophic performances Not done, we’ll see what happens next.”
  • Boris Lambert: “There is disappointment, it was a difficult match with a good response in the second half. In the end it was still not enough. In the first half we had a hard time creating anything. We have to keep believing, especially as long as we can.” .”

Phase by phase

End: Charleroi saves itself!

It’s a wrap. Eupen did everything for it, but ultimately lost again to Charleroi. Thanks to the victory, this is assured of an extended stay in first class.

It is still busy in front of Koffi’s goal. Keita’s shot is cleared, Deom then needs too much time to take the shot. Heymans defends sharply.

Charleroi is trying to play it wisely. The Carolos take a lot of time on a corner. Eupen still has 5 minutes to pick something up.

5 – extra time

An extra 5 minutes will be added.

The Eupen audience suddenly revives. After the past seasons, they naturally believe in miracles.

Koffi makes it exciting

Koffi makes a complete mistake while playing football. He kicks a ball across the ground into Palsson’s feet. A fast ball to Bialek and his excellent finish later it is suddenly 1-2. Can Eupen still ruin Charleroi’s party?

Bialek has been working hard all match and now gets the ball to a teammate. There is also a cross, which Koffi picks in an authoritarian manner.

Chaos

Kral immediately causes chaos at the back of Charleroi. Several high balls cause some concern, ultimately without damage to the visitors. Eupen now makes his last substitution with Möhwald and Deom.

Andersen is gradually throwing his last trump cards on the table. Kral will take on the Alderweireld role as a defender at striker.
