Anderlecht is in the lead halfway through the play-offs, but feels the hot breath of both Club Brugge and Union on their necks. Even the smooth victory against Cercle Brugge could not fully convince Marc Degryse that the Purple & White will soon make it.
There has already been a lot of fuss about Anderlecht’s football. They always assume a good organization, but most people are still lacking in terms of level offensively.
At Club, Union and Genk you see a clear strategy and tactics. Something that is not always visible among the people of Brussels. “Anderlecht remains a different story. The football against Cercle was also really poor at times,” Degryse analyzes HLN.
“They also face two crucial away games: Sunday to Cercle and the following week to Union. If the Purple & White does not win in Bruges on Sunday, they will be at the kick-off in the Duden Park with shaky knees.”
Without Thorgan Hazard and possibly Anders Dreyer, Brian Riemer will have to present a different football. Because those two were able to force something out of nowhere. And Théo Leoni won’t have such a fad every week.
“Anderlecht lives for the moments — like that one goal by Leoni against Cercle. The feeling I have at Anderlecht is different from my feeling at Club Brugge. But it is the Champions’ Play-offs. We still get something…”
