Jorthy Mokio, the 16-year-old defender of AA Gent, has requested his release from the Belgian Football Association. Because he still has amateur status, this is a mandatory formality for every amateur that must be done before May 1, in case he wants to change clubs. However, that does not mean that the left-footed defender will soon look elsewhere.

LIVE.LIVE EUROPE PLAYOFFS. 16-year-old Mokio starts at AA Gent, three changes in the starting eleven at STVV

On the day that he can celebrate his starting debut at Stayen in the Europe Play-offs, 16-year-old Jorthy Mokio from AA Gent has requested his release from the Belgian Football Association.

Even though his sleeve is being pulled hard by interesting foreign clubs – like Lille, Ajax, PSV and German top clubs – the Buffaloes can still harbor a glimmer of hope that he will stay in his home city. Many within AA Gent are discouraged by the prospect of a professional contract, but this is explained by insiders as an administrative maneuver to keep his future in his own hands. If Mokio decides to change clubs, he does not want to be blocked and allow AA Gent to have a say in his future employer. If he stays and signs his first professional contract, this will not actually change anything.

Mokio has already made two short appearances for the Buffaloes, and he will make his starting debut against STVV on Tuesday.
