The Antwerp police pulled over a cyclist last Friday for excessive speed. The bicycle reached speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour and was seized.

The traffic support team (VOT) of the North region held a traffic action in Merksem on Friday, with the support of aspiring inspectors from the police academy. “During the action, an e-bike drove towards the police. The police saw that the cyclist should not pedal. The aircraft even reached a speed of 60 km/h,” the police said. Because such an e-bike is not allowed, it was confiscated.

The police also caught a driver who had gotten behind the wheel despite a current two-year driving ban. “The car was immobilized on behalf of the public prosecutor’s office,” the police said.

During the action, the VOT also caught twelve drivers who were using mobile phones while driving. Eight drivers were not wearing a seat belt or helmet. “Two vehicles were parked on the sidewalk and were reported. And no fewer than 31 drivers did not follow a road diversion and instead drove across the grounds of a company. They were fined for not following the lane.”
