Very bizarre story: arrival of Marc Brys in Cameroon immediately led to quite a polemic at the football association – Football News

--

Marc Brys has embarked on a striking new adventure. The ex-coach of STVV, KV Mechelen and, until the beginning of this season, OH Leuven, among others, will become national coach of Cameroon. Although this immediately causes a strange phenomenon in the country, where the football association was not aware of his appointment.

Marc Brys is the new national coach of Cameroon… but was not chosen by FECAFOOT, the Cameroonian football federation. In fact, the Football Association only knew about his appointment together with the rest of the (football) world.

On Tuesday evening, the 61-year-old Belgian was announced as the new national coach of Cameroon and would sign a contract until 2028. The coach himself also confirmed this in the newspapers and indicated that he did not want to work in Belgium.

However, the Cameroonian federation did not know anything at that time. How is this possible? Simply because this appointment of Marc Brys comes from the Ministry of Sports in Cameroon, and therefore not from the federation.

Crazy start for Marc Brys in Cameroon

The conflict between FECAFOOT and the government had started after the resignation of Rigobert Song in February after the Africa Cup: President Paul Biya of Cameroon had then decided not to give federation president Samuel Eto’o a say in that decision.

“This unilateral decision comes at a time when FECAFOOT has agreed to carry out the instructions of the President of the Republic of Cameroon,” the statement said on social media. Yet they would like to reconcile – read: the appointment of Marc Brys will normally be confirmed. Still, it’s a strange start to the adventure.
