Club Brugge’s stadium file. It has been dragging on for so long, but Minister Demir has released a new and not insignificant update.

The Council of Permit Disputes gave the plan to build a new stadium for Club Brugge a cold shower. Blauw-zwart had already anticipated this by submitting a new file and new permit application, taking into account all objections made. We are waiting for an answer.

The issue was also raised in the Flemish parliament and Zuhal Demir (N-VA), Minister of the Environment, had a few things to say. “This file has been going on for a long time. I had granted a permit on October 6, 2021. Unfortunately, the Council for Permit Disputes has annulled it.”

Favorable advice for the construction of the Club Brugge stadium

The reason for the annulment of that permit was a contradiction with local regulations. There is now some momentum in the business again. “We have received advice from the GOVC, all advice is favorable,” Demir has good news. The GOVC is the Regional Environmental Permits Committee.

As a result, Demir could soon rule again on whether Club Brugge will receive a new permit for the construction of a new stadium. “I hope to be able to decide in the coming weeks. It will certainly be in May.”
