Dries Mertens is having an excellent season at Galatasaray, but everything seemed to indicate that he would retire at the end of the season. But suddenly the plan seems to change.
With 5 goals and 11 decisive passes this season in 28 league games, Dries Mertens is in good form despite his 36 years (37 in May). The years pass and the former Napoli striker seemed ready for retirement.
In his recent interviews it indeed appeared that Mertens would hang up his football boots after this season. “I’m looking forward to retiring,” he literally told Sporza a few months ago.

Apparently his good form has convinced him that there might be some more football fun to be had. “To be honest, I don’t really know yet. I’ve thought about it a lot in recent weeks but haven’t made a decision yet,” Dries Mertens told the Turkish medium Sabah.
“I think I’ll continue for another season. I’m having fun, I’m playing,” our compatriot admits. “I am also spared from injuries.” It remains to be seen where Mertens will continue. Without a doubt, he will attract interest from other teams.
“It could be here, it could also be elsewhere. But it looks like I will play another season,” concludes the former PSV Eindhoven player. And of course: is the Jupiler Pro League an option to end his career?
