The Tour of Flanders is getting closer. On Sunday, Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel and many other world top players will fight for victory in the Flemish Monument. Who is capable of beating the world champion?

In the podcast Wuyts & Vlaeminck Alpecin-Deceuninck’s tactics in Ghent-Wevelgem were examined. Mathieu van der Poel and Mads Pedersen fought a great duel, although it was the Dane who ultimately won.

“I thought Mathieu was alone quite quickly,” analyzed Nathan Van Hooydonck, who immediately made a comparison with Sunday’s course. “The Tour of Flanders of course has a huge intermediate section: I rode there together with Mads Pedersen and about ten others last year. That lends itself to riders like Jasper Stuyven to anticipate there.”

And yet the big question remains: who can silence Van der Poel? “Wasn’t he also excellent last year? He can also play the game differently,” Sep Vanmarcke added. “They have to drive him off too. He can wait if he wants.”

But waiting, that’s not the style MVDP. Can Wout van Aert formulate an answer to his eternal rival next Sunday? “Visma-Lease a Bike is strongly represented, although I thought it was more impressive last year than now. But it is clear that they are going for Wout van Aert.”
