Anderlecht women get (partly) their weight: despite no fewer than 9 sick players, they keep Standard, which did not want to postpone the match, at a draw | Women football

--

This afternoon the top match between RSCA Women and Standard Fémina was scheduled in the Lotto Super League, the first division of women’s football. Although that match was hanging by a thread for a while. The Purple & White asked for a postponement after no fewer than nine players had to drop out due to illness, but title rival Standard did not want to go along with that. The game ultimately ended on a spectacle score.

Not only are the Champions’ Play-offs in full swing for the men, there is also plenty of competition for the title for the women. The Clasico between Anderlecht and Standard was scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The two teams were only two points apart in the standings. A crucial top match in women’s football, although it seemed to be in jeopardy.

There is a virus going around in the dressing room of the RSCA Women, which caused no fewer than nine players to fall ill on Friday evening and Saturday morning. The players, including regulars Vatafu, Wijnants and Jacobs, suffered from stomach and intestinal complaints and were forced to be absent. The Purple & White therefore asked for the meeting to be postponed, but Standard did not want to agree.

The top event started under the watchful eye of Wouter Vandenhaute and Jesper Fredberg. In the first half, however, there were still good chances to be had from both teams, who went into the dressing room with the score 0-0. The women also did not score in the second half. A free kick from Standard player Toloba in the final minutes was one of the best chances of the match. 0-0 was the final score and both teams were not satisfied with that.

The draw allowed OH Leuven Women to make a move in the title battle. They took on Club YLA this afternoon, but also drew. Their match ended 3-3. As a result, Leuven and Anderlecht are still in a shared first place with 35 points each. Standard follows in third place with 33 points.
