Jasper Philipsen crossed the line in fourth place in Ghent-Wevelgem last Sunday. Another strong performance from the ‘Flame of Ham’, who will see his contract with Alpecin-Deceuninck come to an end at the end of this season.
With victories in Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-Sanremo and Brugge-De Panne, Philipsen has made an excellent start to the new cycling season. The sprint bomb from Alpecin-Deceuninck is therefore courted by absolute top formations such as UAE Team Emirates and BORA-hansgrohe.
And the 26-year-old rider sees his contract with the Belgian formation of the Roodhooft brothers expire this season. The Philipsen manager has already indicated that discussions will first be held with Alpecin-Deceuninck about a possible contract extension before the competition is given a chance.
Clear language
“Obviously it is a huge advantage to have such a teammate with you in certain race situations. Of course I hope that Jasper will also stay. But I don’t want to talk about that yet,” Christophe Roodhooft said candidly. La Dernière Heure.
Roodhooft believes that there is more time to discuss a new agreement with Philipsen. At the moment the team has other priorities.
“The classics that are coming now are the most important. All I can say is that my relationship with Jasper is still the same. But I repeat: before we think about the mercato, we must focus on the classics.”
