British drug manufacturer AstraZeneca is withdrawing its Covid-19 vaccine worldwide. It gives the reason that there is “a surplus of updated vaccines available.” Previously, there were reports of patients developing TTS (thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome) after vaccination.

In addition to the withdrawal of the vaccine, known as Vaxzevria, AstraZeneca will also initiate the procedure to withdraw the authorization that allows the vaccine to be sold within the European Union.

“Since multiple, varied Covid-19 vaccines have been developed, there has been a surplus of available updated vaccines,” the British-Swedish company said in a statement. It admits that demand for Vaxzevria, which is no longer made or supplied, had fallen as a result.

There were also several reports of TTTS deaths following vaccination with Vaxzevria. This involves a combination of blood clots and a low platelet count. In the United Kingdom, a class action lawsuit is underway against AstraZeneca because use of the vaccine has caused serious injury and sometimes even death in dozens of cases. The company also admitted this in court documents, according to British media.
