Fired because of one mere euro. It happened to a 53-year-old woman who had been cleaning the toilets for the Dutch company 2theloo in the Montparnasse train station in Paris for several years. She had been filmed by a company surveillance camera while receiving a one euro tip from a customer. The woman appeals to the labor court.
2theloo management had summoned the mother of two after she accepted a one euro tip left on the counter by a customer in November last year. The employee was subsequently dismissed for a “gross error”. The managers accused her of stealing from the employer after reminding her that tips must be collected by the company and not directly by her.

“Six years of cleaning up feces… 1 euro, 2 euros, you kick me out? And you’re taking six years of my life away. I don’t think that is correct,” the employee told ‘BFMTV’.
“I was shocked, I even asked for forgiveness! But no, they threw me out, they didn’t care,” she complained. “They didn’t even send me my unemployment papers. I took this job to feed my children. And now they fire me for 1 euro? That’s not fair. It’s unfair!” she told ‘BFMTV’.

“For a tip of 1 euro, this person is dumped like a Kleenex,” MP Thomas Portes and former railway employee also expressed his indignation in the studio of ‘BFMTV’. “She did not receive any documents from the company for four months, which prevented her from registering to receive unemployment benefits,” he said.
In a petition that has already collected 33,974 signatures, Thomas Portes criticizes 2theloo’s slowness in providing the documents to the cleaning lady “who was fired overnight”.
The woman, who never wants to work as a toilet attendant again, does not intend to stop there. She has decided to take her case to the labor court.
“We confirm that an employee has been dismissed for serious misconduct. The dismissal is currently the subject of proceedings in a French court, on which we do not wish to comment at this stageé, according to the Dutch company, which has been hired by the French railway company SNCF to manage the toilets.
According to ‘France 2’, 2theloo has fired about twenty people in one year. According to the unions, many dismissals are “unjustified”.
Over the past ten years, 2theloo has worked as a subcontractor for SNCF in about thirty stations in France. The contract runs until 2026. The company also manages toilets in train stations and roadside restaurants in our country.
