Not one, but two sliders in quick succession. Biniam Girmay did not have his most pleasant ride in the Giro. The Eritrean tried to continue cycling after his first fall – and a short patch up with ice packs – but again he came into contact with the slippery road. With his battered body, a retirement in the Giro is the only logical consequence.
Biniam Girmay and the Giro, it’s a marriage that just won’t work out. The Eritrean won a stage on his debut in 2022, but during the podium ceremony the cork of his champagne bottle shot into his eye.
An assignment followed and this year Girmay wanted to polish his reputation in Italy after a mediocre spring. Yesterday he came 3rd, so today his Italian trek is already over after a double belly slide on the Italian brown soap.
