Today the Giro starts in Turin, and the first stage takes the riders over the Superga. Exactly 75 years ago, one of the greatest dramas in Italian sports history took place on that hill. On May 4, 1949, a plane crashed into the flanks of the Superga. All 31 passengers died, all players and staff members of Torino FC: the reigning national champion and supplier of the Italian national team. A reconstruction. “Tutto è perfect, Torino. Everything is perfect, Turin,” said the pilot. And he initiated the landing.
