The blades of the Moulin Rouge cabaret theater fell on the street in Paris last night. No one was injured.

Local residents were surprised on Thursday morning when they saw the metal blades of the Moulin Rouge lying on the street. According to the fire brigade, they came loose between 2 and 3 am and fell onto the street. In their fall of about ten meters, they dragged along the first three letters ‘MOU’ of Moulin Rouge. The facade of the building in the tourist district of Pigalle was also damaged, but according to the fire brigade there is no risk of collapse. No one was injured. Wednesday night’s show was over before the blades came down.

Images show how the blades lie twisted on the street. They have since been taken away.

“Paris without a mill is like Paris without the Eiffel Tower,” says André Duval, who has lived in the district for fifty years and used to work for the Moulin Rouge. Le Parisien. “I am curious about the reaction of the thousands of tourists who come every day.”

It is still unclear how the blades came loose. Fanny Rabasse, spokesperson for the Moulin Rouge, said she “has no explanation”. “The blades are very well maintained, a technician comes to check the mechanism once a week.”

The cabaret was inaugurated in Paris in 1889. During the corona crisis, the building underwent renovation. In September 2021, it opened its doors again after seventeen months.
