Lotto-Dstny seems to have found an explanation for Arnaud De Lie’s poor form. The 22-year-old Belgian has Lyme disease.

“For various reasons, Arnaud De Lie could not yet shine in the Belgian classics,” said Lotto – Dstny upon the news that the team’s spearhead would not start in the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.

Blood tests now seem to have found an explanation: De Lie has Lyme disease.

“After a new check-up, we found antibodies for Lyme disease in his body,” says Lotto-Dstny.

“That is possible – the diagnosis of Lyme is never 100 percent conclusive – the explanation why De Lie could not perform at top level.” De Lie was not visible at the forefront in E3 and Ghent-Wevelgem, among others.

Lyme disease is caused by the bite of a tick infected with a bacteria. De Lie also became ill during an altitude training camp in Tenerife, although it is still unclear whether that is the cause.

Antibiotic treatment was started. “We wish you a speedy recovery,” concludes Lotto-Dstny. It is not yet clear when De Lie will return to the peloton.
