Nigel De Jong is currently director of top football at the KNVB. The former Dutch player has one goal with the Dutch football team and that is to become European Champion.
Nigel De Jong had a long and wonderful professional career. He also played in the Oranje’s midfield for many years and played twice in the European Championship (2008 & 20212) and twice in the World Cup (2010 & 2024). He is now director of top football at the KNVB and he explains the goals of the Dutch team to the Dutch Football International.
“It’s about the balance between performance and relaxation,” is De Jong’s vision. “It is very important that you sometimes get out of the tunnel vision that you have all been in for weeks,” De Jong looks ahead to the European Championships in Germany.
“Soon in Germany, the families and friends of the players will be in their own hotel seven hundred meters from the players’ hotel. So there will be times when they will see each other,” who is careful to avoid an atmosphere that is too cozy. “But it should not be some kind of school trip. We are going to Germany with a mission: to become European champions,” the Red Devils have been warned about the Dutch team.
