Various Belgian governments jointly hold a large majority interest in Fluxys through graduated structures. Based on the group’s expertise in gas transport, subsidiary Fluxys Hydrogen was founded in 2023 to develop the necessary infrastructure for the transport of hydrogen.

The development and operation of a Belgian hydrogen network is part of the European Hydrogen Backbone. Fluxys Hydrogen has already conducted a market survey and started preparatory studies.

The expansion of the hydrogen network will take place step by step with new pipelines and repurposing of existing natural gas pipelines where possible. Fluxys Hydrogen is preparing to lay the first pipelines in the industrial clusters that have clearly communicated the need for hydrogen. The ambition is to offer a transport capacity of 30 TWh of hydrogen per year by 2030.

The Belgian-Dutch ports form an important link in the hydrogen transition. Knowing more? Come to the Belgian-Dutch Port Day on June 13, 2024 in Amsterdam.
