Final stage
This is what she tells in the documentary series Till the end where volunteers are followed who assist people in the final phase of their lives. “Sometimes I don’t know what to do with this. I’m still here. It is almost inhuman,” says Dineke.

“My clients have all finished their treatment and they usually die within three months. But Dineke has celebrated two more birthdays. I hope for her sake that there will not be another third birthday celebration, because that is not what she wants. It is now two years later and she is also becoming more of a friend,” says Lex, who supports her in the final phase of her life.
Bond with Lex
Dineke often feels bad and would like to go to a hospice. Something she is waiting for, because you have to meet certain conditions. She has become close with volunteer Lex over time, something that goes against his intention. He wants to keep his private life private, something Dineke would rather share.
“She wants to do more things with me, which I think is something you should do with friends or daughter. That’s not what I’m for. I do not want that either. I will clearly indicate that limit. She has an enormous need for attention, warmth and care around her.”
Yet he visits her birthday, they sometimes go to a terrace together and toast with a glass of wine and a cigarette for Dineke. “First they say I’m going to die and now I’m eating vegan cake.” Lex: “Cheers, to life then. As long as it lasts.”
