After the hopeful match and 86-99 victory in Leeuwarden, Kortrijk Spurs will play their last away match of the season on Friday evening. When visiting Neder-Over-Heembeek against Brussels, the people of Kortrijk want to deliver the same quality as in the far north of the Netherlands.

“We conceded 86 points in Leeuwarden and that is too many,” says general manager Davy Callewaert. “We performed fantastic offensively, but defensively there is still work to be done. We keep taking points too easily, even when we play well. If you concede 80 to 90 points, your offensive must be fantastic to win a game. We succeeded in this in Leeuwarden, but that does not always work. Defensive concerns are a major concern, but that is of course not the entire analysis of our season.”

“The matches now follow each other very quickly,” continues Callewaert. “After Brussels we get two more home games against Bergen and the Dutch Yoast to end our season on a positive note. For the trip to Brussels, it is a great pity that Jamarius Burton is out with a shoulder dislocation, suffered in Leeuwarden. Yarick Brussen is also far from back. So it is up to the players who are still there to show what they are worth. Some young people may also get some playing time. We won the first match of the season 86-94, but at home the Brussels team beat us 72-74. So it could be exciting.”

“The teams that narrowly missed the Elite Gold apparently suffered a mental blow”

“Brussels is actually a bit ill in the same bed,” Callewaert continues. “They also narrowly missed the Elite Gold and since then things haven’t gone so smoothly there either. In fact, they are still in exactly the same position, having won one more match, exactly as we ended the regular competition. The teams that narrowly missed out on Elite Gold apparently suffered a mental blow, while the teams that were at the back are now winning almost everything. Very strange. That is precisely why we are pleased that the competition will take a completely different shape next season. All Belgian and Dutch teams will then compete in one and the same competition. No more Elite Gold and Elite Silver. Then we also play against strong Dutch teams such as Leiden and Den Bosch. We are looking forward to that, but that is still in the future. First we want to achieve a new smashing performance at Brussels.”
