Italian media seem to be playing catch-up about who will succeed Stefano Pioli as coach of AC Milan. While Milan say they still have to draw up a shortlist, national coach Domenico Tedesco is also being put forward as a possible candidate.
In Italy they like rumors. Last weekend, the Gazzetta dello Sport put forward two names in its Saturday newspaper to succeed Pioli: the Portuguese Paulo Fonseca and the Spaniard Julen Lopetegui. Their agents have sat down with Milan’s top management several times in recent weeks.
Other media mention their names. Five days after it became unofficially announced that Milan will say goodbye to its 2022 champion maker, Stefano Pioli, at the end of the season, a dozen names have already been discussed.
Today the Gazzetta also adds the name of national coach Domenico Tedesco as an outsider to a list of possible candidates based on ‘good contact’.
Milan said he had not yet explained any lines. Not to the Belgian Football Association, not to the German trainer with Italian roots. Tedesco recently signed a new contract with the association. In Milan it can be heard that the club is still working on drawing up the final lines of its profile and drawing up a shortlist. Names are not discussed – they think that is premature.
