Things went wrong again at Sclessin: hooligans from Standard threw fireworks on the field to round off a protest action during which they remained silent for twelve minutes. The players remained on the field while stewards removed the fireworks. Then the match against KV Mechelen continued again.

12 minutes in the meantime, the last animation is worth it.” “Twelve minutes of nothing, that is the only action you deserve,” read a banner in the Standard spy headline. The home fans decided not to cheer on their team for 12 minutes and to keep the otherwise swirling Sclessin quiet.

But at the end of the action things went wrong: fireworks were thrown on the field, causing referee Michiel Allaerts to decide to stop the match.

Stewards cleared away the fireworks and the players remained on the field, allowing the match to resume fairly quickly.

Standard had to play the first match of the play-offs behind closed doors as punishment for riots during the cup match against Anderlecht.
