A serious traffic accident took place between a police minibus and a car at the intersection of Jules de Troozsquare in Laeken and Koninginnelaan in Schaerbeek on Saturday afternoon. A total of sixteen victims were taken to hospital, including fourteen future police inspectors.

The incident happened at 1.28 pm at the bridge near Jules de Trooz, on the border of Schaarbeek and Laeken. There, a minibus from the Brussels Capital Ixelles police zone, which was driving on Koninginnelaan in the direction of Laeken, collided with a Peugeot that was driving from Werkhuizenkaai in the direction of the center.
Introductory day
“A total of fourteen occupants of the minibus were taken to hospital with minor injuries. These were prospective inspectors who were on their way to the police station on E. Bockstaellaan. They took a tour of the various services of our police zone as part of an introductory day,” says Commissioner Ilse Van de Keere, spokeswoman for the Brussels Capital Ixelles police zone. “The two occupants of the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Fortunately, their lives are not in danger.”

It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened. The police from the Brussels-North zone arrived on the scene to investigate the accident and the victim assistance service provides support to those involved.
