Late on Tuesday evening, young people of Turkish descent crashed and checked two German vehicles in Heusden-Zolder and Beringen. In Beringen they even did this with about 20 vehicles. No violence was used, but the police made it clear to the young people that they cannot do this.

Around 11:30 p.m., the police received the first report of a driver who was driving towards Beringen on Meylandtlaan in Zolder. A German Ford Transit was stuck right in front of her by four cars containing young people of Turkish descent. The youths also checked the van.
Fifteen minutes later a similar call came in, this time on Koolmijnlaan in Beringen. About twenty vehicles from the area blocked the road and stopped a vehicle with German license plates. “The young people indicated that they wanted to assist the police, but colleagues made it clear to them that this was certainly not the intention,” says spokesperson Katrien De Clercq of the Beringen/Ham/Tessenderlo police. “There was no physical violence in the two incidents. We have not issued any fines.”
It is no coincidence that the young people target German vehicles. The driver who made the PKK hand gesture on Koolmijnlaan in Heusden on Monday afternoon also drove a German car. His car was then crushed and the man was removed from his car. Also in the convoy that caused the first escalation on Sunday afternoon was a car with German license plates.
Apart from the two interventions on Meylandtlaan and Koolmijnlaan, there were no major incidents on Tuesday night, the police said.
