This week Stijn Meuris called him the best guitarist our country has ever known. Musician and producer Jean-Marie Aerts died last weekend after a long battle at the age of 72. Two years after Arno, three years after Paul Couter, those other frontmen of TC Matic. Aerts was born in Bruges, lived in Ostend and Westende, before finally finding his permanent place in Leuven. “Wherever you found him, it was always with a guitar in hand.” We look back on the West Flemish years, at the cradle of ‘Oh la la la’.
