Six months after the opening, visitor numbers for Belgian Beer World, the beer museum in the Brussels Stock Exchange, remain limited. Opposition parties N-VA and MR denounced this in the Brussels city council on Monday.

According to Geoffroy Coomans de Brachène (MR), the museum has approximately 9,000 visitors per month. That is 300 per day, while the council had set a target of 1,000 daily visitors. This means that there have been a total of 50,000 visitors, while there should have been 180,000 according to expectations, he said.

According to the French-speaking liberal, the city council is also trying to mask the disappointing figures by repeatedly referring to the number of ‘passages’ in the Beurs. That is 50,000 per month, but according to Coomans de Brachène that is not surprising given the central location and the fact that the building is heated and covered.

The two parties are also concerned about the financial prospects of the beer museum. Mayor Philippe Close (PS) emphasized that the aim is to break even by 2028. According to Coomans de Brachène, the catering businesses in the building barely generate a third of the projected turnover.
