On paper, Ukraine is by far the favorite in the play-off final. It was narrowly stronger than Bosnia in the semi-finals last Thursday. They turned a deficit into a victory, thanks in part to a late goal by Roman Yaremchuk (ex-Club and AA Gent). The Ukrainians have some players of international level – think of left back Zinchenko (Arsenal), winger Mudryk (Chelsea) or striker Dovbyk (Girona, 14 goals in La Liga).
Iceland won its semi-final convincingly against Israel (1-4). Things could have turned out differently – with the score 1-2, Zahavi missed a penalty. Ultimately, Gudmundsson (Genoa) was crowned man of the match, scoring three times.
The decisive match between Ukraine and Iceland will take place in Poland. The draw had determined that Ukraine would be the host country, but had to be diverted due to the Russian invasion.
