A new interior design store with an integrated art gallery opened on the Amerikalei on Thursday evening. A Living Gallery is the business of architect Marc Lauwers and wife Marie-anne van Dooren.
A store that serves as an interior design store, where you can buy furniture and decorative items, but which also functions as an art gallery, where you can admire paintings and other artistic creations. At A Living Gallery you can admire the art for free, but the works are also for sale to those interested.
Architect Marc Lauwers used to have his business on the Mechelsesteenweg, but decided to move to the Amerikalei, where he is only five minutes away from the KMSKA. “We are art lovers and collectors, so we apply that in the interiors we create. Our location is ideal, immersed in art. An interior should be cozy and warm, art helps with that,” says Marc.
There is currently a colorful collection by Frieda van Dun in the store. “We are big fans of Frieda, there is not a single work that does not appeal to me. I’m even wearing one of her scarves at the moment,” says Marie-anne. Marc is also a fan: “Frieda is now an established name. Her works will be proudly exhibited here until May.”
By the summer a new art exhibition will be on display in the gallery: “We also give young artists the opportunity. We often work with emerging artists to offer them a growth opportunity and platform. We enjoy doing that and it gives us great pleasure to see them grow. Moreover, we always buy a work from them,” says Marc.
The business opened on Thursday evening. “The opening was a great success. About two hundred people passed by: from customers to people from the art industry. Honorary chairman of the MuHKA Ernest Van Buynder came by to give a speech. It was a double success: our third grandchild was also born yesterday, so it was an emotional day,” says Marie-anne.
The interior design store and art gallery can be found at Amerikalei 90.
