Eurovision Song Contest pays beautiful tribute to Nicole & Hugo: “Hugo, you are in our thoughts”

A goosebump moment. Just before the points award ceremony, the Eurovision Song Contest held a tribute to Nicole and Hugo. She wished him, in front of the whole of Europe, a lot of strength with the death of Nicole at the end of 2022.

It will have been a special surprise for many viewers at home: just before the points award ceremony, there was suddenly an ode to Nicole & Hugo. The iconic Belgian duo was the first to combine song and dance on the Eurovision stage in 1973. “They wrote history,” said the presenter. The duo ended up in last place, but “they were simply ahead of their time”. This was followed by a compilation of other famous Eurovision artists performing the wildest choreographies while singing live.

“Sadly, the wonderful Nicole passed away a year ago, with Hugo by her side,” she continued. “If Hugo is now watching at home in Belgium: our thoughts are with you. Tonight we celebrate you and Nicole by seeing your wonderful legacy in the Eurovision Song Contest and by following in your brave footsteps.”
