At the end of next month, the Mechelen trade and catering industry will organize a major event around bodypositivity and diversity. 27 traders and nine catering entrepreneurs, including Romy Curvy, are joining forces for this. The event is a follow-up to last year’s catwalk.

Last year, entrepreneur Romy Schlimbach, known as plus-size model Romy Curvy and manager of the Curvy Store in the Bruul, organized a catwalk on the Grote Markt for the first time. Standing there bodypositivity and female empowerment centrally. There were so many positive reactions that the initiative will be expanded this year.

Romy and the trade association Mechelen MeeMaken decided to join forces for an annual event that is supported by 36 traders and catering establishments. “Last year the catwalk not only received good reactions from visitors, but also from fellow entrepreneurs,” says Romy Curvy. “That’s nice. There is a good atmosphere among the traders, because we have to make things better together.”

“Thanks to Romy and Lies Lauwers from Femina Lingerie, we will be organizing this wonderful event together for the first time at the end of next month, which will undoubtedly provide a lot of positive energy,” says Geert Milis from Mechelen MeeMaken. “There will be a big catwalk, exciting beats and local food trucks. Visitors are introduced to the latest collections and are rewarded with a goodie bag.”

Nice acquisition

“Our city center already has many great events, such as the fair, the Warm Welcome Weekend and Local Friday,” says Alderman for Economy Greet Geypen (For Mechelen). “The catwalk is a nice asset. It fits perfectly with what we stand for as a city: a place where local shopping, a varied offering and large and small companies are central.”

The event will take place on Friday, May 31 from 6 p.m. on the Grote Markt. The show starts at 8 p.m. The dealers show clothing not only for women, but also for children, men and dogs. In addition, the models also show many other products from Mechelen traders, such as glasses and decorations.
