Anyone who spends time in BV-land or Hollywood, on the red carpet or in the corridors, will often visit this section.

Can you ask about Ozempic?

“Did you use Ozempic?”, is that a compliment? From now on, officially yes. Barbra Streisand asked that question on Instagram in response to a photo of Melissa McCarthy (known from films such as Bridesmaids and Spy). A lot of people thought that was rude. Streisand quickly took down her comment, but later clarified that it was meant as a compliment. McCarthy herself responded in a video she posted on Instagram, in which she reads a magazine with Barbra Streisand on the cover. “What I remember is that Barbra Streisand knows I exist,” McCarthy says in the video. “She contacted me and she thought I looked good! A victory for me!” McCarthy and Streisand know each other: they recorded a duet for Streisand’s album Encore.

Can you say “Nigel”?

Actor Sam Neill from the Jurassic Parkmovies, isn’t actually called Sam at all. “I was baptized as Nigel Neill, so my parents immediately gave me a disadvantage,” he recently confessed. When he was ten, his best friend was also called Nigel, he said. They then decided to call each other Sam and Bill. Neill calls it the best decision he ever made. “Nigel” to many English speakers is pretty much the equivalent of “Kevin” here. The only more or less well-known Nigel there is Nigel Farage and he is not immediately running a flawless campaign for his first name. Although there was still F1 pilot Nigel Mansell in the 90s.

Can you return to meat?

There are many celebrities who choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. Actors who come back to that, in public, are scarcer. Martin Freeman, known for Sherlock and the The Lord of the Ringsfilms, says goodbye to the Quorn after 38 years. The now 52-year-old actor decided as a young teenager that he did not feel good about eating an animal, but a few months ago he discovered the joys of bird’s nests and pork chops. He recently even ate spaghetti bolognese for the first time. From now on he will eat what he likes, he says. By the way, he has an excuse for that that you might also try: nutrition specialists are now very critical of processed foods, and aren’t those meat substitutes ultra-processed?
