May 9 is Ascension Day, another holiday this month. For many employees this means a day of leave, for those who make the bridge, even two. This also means that some services may take a day off, or even make the bridge. Can you take the train? Is the local Colruyt open? An overview of what is open on Thursday, and which services do or do not use the bridge.

Bpost

There will be no mail delivery on Thursday and packages will not be sent or delivered. The post offices also keep their doors closed. A package or letter sent on Wednesday will therefore only be delivered from Friday at the latest.

The mail delivery does not make the bridge, so Friday is a normal day again.

The line

Our buses always run the same as the Sunday schedule on public holidays. That is also the case on Thursday. To plan your trip, it is best to consult the route planner or take a look at the app.

Buses will run again on Friday according to the weekly timetable. But there are far fewer buses for school runs and rush hour runs because schools make the bridge.

NMBS

The same applies to NMBS. The train schedule will be adjusted to the Sunday schedule on Thursday. It is also best to check the website in advance for a train to plan your trip or to avoid possible disruptions.

NMBS will make the bridge. The offer will therefore also be slightly adjusted on Friday, but this will not happen drastically. Most peak hour trains do not run. The ticket offices will also follow the Sunday schedule on Friday, although they will still be open in larger stations.

Banks

The bank will also not be open, as Ascension Day is a bank closing day. Febelfin, the umbrella banking sector, announced this on their website. Online banking remains possible, of course. You will also be able to make payments online or physically or withdraw money from an ATM.

The banks create the bridge, so the door of your bank will not open on Friday either. But banking and collection are possible again.

City services

The fact that your town hall or city hall opens its doors is not the same for every municipality. So it is best to check in advance whether the counters in your area are open or not. Police and other emergency services are of course available on both Thursday and Friday, although branches may be closed here and there.

It is best to check in advance on the relevant website whether your town hall or town hall will make the bridge.

Colruyt

If you want to enjoy your day off, it is best to do your shopping on Wednesday. The Colruyt stores will not be open on Thursdays. The store will open again on Friday, so you can still do your weekend shopping.

Delhaize

Delhaize stores are closed on Thursdays. However, your local Delhaize may make an exception, as many branches are now independent. Normally the shops are open again on Friday, but to be sure, check the opening hours of your local Delhaize online.

Carrefour

The same applies to Carrefour. You can of course still shop on Wednesday, but on Thursday that could be disappointing. Some stores close their doors, others do not. So you should also check here whether the local Carrefour will be open or not.

This is also recommended for Friday, but there is less chance of closure.

Shopping streets

Anyone who likes to go shopping on their day(s) off may find themselves standing in front of a closed door. Many chains and shops close their doors on the holiday, but some self-employed people choose not to do so. Here too, it is best to take a look online.
